Heating oil prices: catching the cheap moment
The heating oil price changes daily. Those who understand what drives it buy more calmly and often cheaper. We show you what to watch.
When to buy?Crude oil, euro rate, season
The heating oil price depends above all on the crude oil price and the dollar-euro rate, because oil is traded in dollars. On top come taxes, the CO2 levy and demand.
Rule of thumb: in the warm season demand is lower, often the price too. In autumn, when everyone fills up at once, it tends to rise.
How to buy wisely
- Be early: don’t wait until the tank is nearly empty. Those with time can wait for a cheap day.
- Compare several suppliers: the price per litre differs clearly by region and supplier. A comparison almost always pays off.
- Larger amounts are cheaper: the price per litre drops with the order quantity. Perhaps order together with neighbours.
- Plan delivery time: in peak periods delivery can take a while. Ordering in good time saves nerves and often money.
Said honestly
Nobody reliably hits the perfect low, no app and no adviser. No one knows tomorrow’s market. It makes sense to watch the price casually over weeks and strike at a value that is good for you, instead of speculating on the absolute minimum. And remember the direction: with a rising CO2 levy, fossil heating tends to get more expensive. We give you the facts, the decision stays with you.
