Hair oil: shine, care and healthy ends
The right oil gives hair softness and protects the ends. We show you which oil suits your hair and how to use it properly.
Which oil for you? What hair oil really does
A good hair oil wraps around the hair, smooths the cuticle and protects against dryness and split ends. It adds softness, tames flyaways and brings shine, without weighing the hair down, as long as you use it sparingly.
Important: oil does not replace washing, it cares for lengths and ends. A few drops are enough.

Which oil for which hair?
- Argan oil: the all-rounder for shine and softness, suits almost any hair.
- Coconut oil: penetrates deep into the hair and protects against protein loss, but is heavy and often too much for fine hair.
- Jojoba oil: similar to the skin’s own sebum, ideal for the scalp and low-grease styling.
- Castor oil: traditionally for stronger hair and brows, very viscous, best used mixed.
- Almond oil: light and mild, good for fine, sensitive hair and irritated scalp.
Use it right, do not overdo it
Spread a few drops in your hands and work them mainly into lengths and ends; with an oily scalp, leave out the roots. As a pre-wash treatment it can be a little more, then rinse out thoroughly.
On dry hair a touch is enough to seal. Too much oil makes the hair look greasy.
What to look for, said honestly
Many conventional shine sprays and ends oils consist mainly of silicones like dimethicone. They give instant shine but only sit as a film around the hair and can build up over time without truly nourishing. Pure, cold-pressed plant oils are often the more honest choice.
- Cold-pressed and organic: natural, without unnecessary additives.
- Dose sparingly: better to add more than to overload.
- Pure oil over silicone mix: watch for a short ingredient list.
