Facial oil: the right oil for your skin
A good facial oil nourishes without weighing the skin down. We show you which oil suits your skin type, and why one term decides everything: comedogenic or not.
Which oil for you?Why oil on the face?
The skin produces its own oil, called sebum. Plant oils can support this protective film instead of drying it out. Jojoba oil, for example, is chemically very similar to the skin’s own sebum and is therefore especially well tolerated.
A few drops are enough. Applied to slightly damp skin, a good oil adds moisture, smooths and calms, without fillers or fragrances.

Comedogenic or not? The key term
Comedogenicity describes how strongly an oil tends to clog the pores. This is the decisive point, especially for blemish-prone or oily skin. Some oils sit heavily and encourage blackheads, others absorb easily and are well tolerated.
Considered non-comedogenic are, among others, jojoba oil, argan oil, hemp oil and rosehip seed oil. They suit practically every skin type. Heavier, more comedogenic oils such as coconut oil should be used with care on the face, even if they work well for the body.
Which oil for which skin type?
- Oily, blemish-prone skin: light, non-comedogenic oils like jojoba, grapeseed, rosehip and hemp. They regulate and calm.
- Dry skin: richer oils like almond, argan or avocado provide plenty of moisture.
- Mature skin: rosehip seed oil and argan oil with their regenerating compounds.
- Sensitive skin: mild oils like almond and jojoba, ideally without additives.
What to look for, said honestly
Many conventional facial oils and creams are based on mineral oil and paraffin from petroleum. These substances sit like a film on the skin but do not nourish it. A pure, cold-pressed plant oil is often the more honest choice.
- Cold-pressed and organic: gently produced, without residues.
- Short ingredient list: ideally just the oil itself, without fragrance or preservatives.
- Check comedogenicity: for blemish-prone skin, choose light oils.
- Test first: a small patch test on the inner arm shows tolerance.
We give you the facts, the decision stays with you.
