Body & massage oil: care and relaxation
A good body oil cares for the skin and turns every massage into a feel-good moment. We show you the best base oils and what matters.
The best base oilsNourish and glide
A body oil has two jobs: it supplies the skin with moisture and fatty acids, and during a massage it gives the hands the needed glide. Applied to slightly damp skin after showering, it absorbs especially well.
Unlike a lotion with a high water content, a pure oil cares lastingly and without fillers.

The best base oils for the body
- Almond oil: mild, well tolerated and suitable for every skin type, even sensitive and baby skin. The classic massage oil.
- Jojoba oil: very stable, absorbs well and is similar to the skin’s own sebum.
- Sesame oil: warming, at home in Ayurvedic massage.
- Coconut oil: gives a velvety skin feel, solid at room temperature and quick to melt.
Refine with essential oils
A neutral base oil can be turned into a feel-good or relaxation oil with a few drops of essential oil, for example lavender to calm. Important: always dilute essential oils strongly, never apply them neat to the skin.
A rough rule is a few drops per tablespoon of base oil. Do a small skin test first.
What to look for, said honestly
Many cheap baby oils and massage oils consist of mineral oil (often declared as paraffinum liquidum), a substance from petroleum. It glides well but does not nourish the skin. A pure, cold-pressed plant oil, by contrast, truly cares.
- Cold-pressed and organic: natural rather than petroleum-based.
- Short ingredient list: ideally just the oil, without fragrance or preservatives.
- Dilute essential oils: never neat, and not during pregnancy or with small children without advice.
We give you the facts, the decision stays with you.
