Essential oils and pets: what you need to know
What smells pleasant to us can be dangerous for animals. Cats in particular are affected.
To the rulesCats cannot break many things down
Cats lack a certain breakdown pathway in the liver, so components of essential oils can accumulate in them and act as a toxin. Dogs and small pets also react more sensitively than humans.
Even scenting the same room or oil on the fur can be a risk.

Safe basic rules
- Never on the animal: no essential oils on fur, skin or in the food, least of all with cats.
- Diffuser with care: not in rooms the animal cannot leave, better to abstain entirely if cats are around.
- Store safely: keep bottles out of reach, remove spilled oil at once.
- Take warning signs seriously: drooling, staggering, breathing trouble or apathy are emergencies for the vet.
Said honestly
With pets, especially cats, caution is no exaggeration but a duty: many essential oils are toxic to them, and when in doubt abstaining is the safe choice. We make no healing promises and clearly advise against treating animals with essential oils. If poisoning is suspected, go to the vet at once. We give you the facts, the decision stays with you.
