Lemon oil: fresh, popular, but phototoxic

The zesty scent is a classic, but it has an important sun rule. We sort it out honestly.

To safety
What it is

Fresh scent from the peel

Essential lemon oil is usually pressed from the peel and brings a clear, zesty scent. It is very popular in aromatherapy and for scenting rooms.

Like many citrus oils it is phototoxic, and that is the most important precaution.

How to use it safely

  • Phototoxic: after applying to the skin, stay out of the sun, or stains and irritation threaten.
  • Always dilute: never neat on the skin, always in a base oil.
  • Great for scenting: in a diffuser it unfolds its fresh scent without skin contact.
  • Keep away from pets: citrus oils are especially poorly tolerated by cats.

Said honestly

Lemon oil is a wonderfully fresh scent for the room and the mood, but the phototoxicity is no detail: treated skin does not belong in the sun. It is a scent and care oil, not a remedy, and we make no healing promises. For pure scenting it is the most straightforward. We give you the facts, the decision stays with you.
