Apricot kernel oil: a light care oil for the face
A mild, fast-absorbing oil from sweet apricot kernels. With one important distinction from a dangerous trend.
How to use itLight, mild, well tolerated
Cosmetic apricot kernel oil is pressed from the sweet kernels of the apricot. It is light, absorbs quickly and is considered well tolerated, which makes it a popular base oil for the face and sensitive skin.
Its profile resembles almond and peach kernel oil, and it works as a gentle all-round care oil.
How it is used
- Face: as a light daily care oil, neat or in serums, also for more mature skin.
- Massage: as a smooth-gliding base oil, often combined with essential oils.
- Baby massage: mild enough, but always test tolerance first and check with a professional if unsure.
- Store cool: dark and cool, tightly closed.
Important: do not confuse it with bitter apricot kernels
The skin-care oil from sweet kernels is one thing. Something completely different is the trend of eating raw bitter apricot kernels, for example as a supposed miracle cure. Bitter kernels contain amygdalin, which releases hydrocyanic acid in the body, and that can be dangerous to life-threatening. This has nothing to do with cosmetic apricot kernel oil, and such promises are neither proven nor safe.
Said honestly
As a care oil, apricot kernel oil is a lovely, light all-rounder with no major weaknesses. It is care, not treatment, and we make no healing promises. If you want a mild facial oil, this is a good pick. Consumer-protection bodies clearly advise against eating bitter kernels. We give you the facts, the decision stays with you.
