The right oil

Curing or food-safe

For furniture, curing oils like boiled linseed oil are often used, forming a solid layer. For cutting boards and anything with food contact, a food-safe, ideally taste-neutral oil is suitable.

Important: not every cooking oil cures, some turn rancid over time , there are special care oils for this.

Step by step

  • 1. Clean the surface and let it dry completely.
  • 2. Apply oil thinly with a lint-free cloth, along the grain.
  • 3. Let it soak in, wipe off excess after a few minutes.
  • 4. Let it cure, apply a second thin coat if needed.

Important: safety

Oil-soaked rags can spontaneously combust as they dry, especially with linseed oil. Lay them out flat and separate to dry, or keep them in a closed metal container, never crumpled in the bin. We give you the facts, the decision stays with you.
