Caring for wood & furniture with oil
Cutting boards, worktops and furniture stay beautiful and protected with the right oil. Here’s how , and what to watch.
To the stepsCuring or food-safe
For furniture, curing oils like boiled linseed oil are often used, forming a solid layer. For cutting boards and anything with food contact, a food-safe, ideally taste-neutral oil is suitable.
Important: not every cooking oil cures, some turn rancid over time , there are special care oils for this.

Step by step
- 1. Clean the surface and let it dry completely.
- 2. Apply oil thinly with a lint-free cloth, along the grain.
- 3. Let it soak in, wipe off excess after a few minutes.
- 4. Let it cure, apply a second thin coat if needed.
Important: safety
Oil-soaked rags can spontaneously combust as they dry, especially with linseed oil. Lay them out flat and separate to dry, or keep them in a closed metal container, never crumpled in the bin. We give you the facts, the decision stays with you.
