Make your own chili oil
A spicy oil for pizza, pasta and the pan , quickly made. With a note on how to prepare it safely.

The principle
Heat passes into the oil
The capsaicin in chilis is fat-soluble and passes into the oil. With dried chili flakes you most easily get a durable, safe chili oil.
A neutral or mild olive oil works well as a base.

Base recipe
Ingredients:
- 250 ml mild olive or rapeseed oil
- 2 to 3 tbsp dried chili flakes (heat to taste)
- clean, dry glass bottle
How to:
- 1. Warm the oil gently (not hot, don’t let it smoke).
- 2. Add dried chili flakes and let them steep in the warm oil.
- 3. Let cool, fill into the bottle, store cool and dark.
- 4. Strain if you like, use up promptly.
Important: safety
Use dried chilis, not fresh. Fresh, water-containing material in oil can promote botulism under exclusion of air. Work with clean, dry vessels and use the oil within a manageable time. When in doubt, throw it away. We give you the facts, the decision stays with you.
