Heating oil: buy now or wait?
The eternal question before ordering. We explain what drives the price and how to decide calmly , without pretending to predict the market.
How to decide
What drives the price
Crude oil, currency, season, levy
The heating oil price follows the crude oil market and the dollar-euro rate, plus taxes, the CO2 levy and seasonal demand. In the warm months demand is usually lower, in autumn it tends to rise.
Nobody can reliably predict tomorrow’s price , not an app, not an adviser.
A calm way to decide
- Don’t run the tank empty: if you have reserves, you can wait for a good day instead of buying under pressure.
- Watch the price over weeks: strike at a value that is good for you, not at the theoretical minimum.
- Compare the total price: including surcharges, for your real amount , see our article on supplier marketing.
- Think long term: with a rising CO2 levy, fossil heating tends to get dearer over the years.
Said honestly
„Buy or wait“ has no guaranteed answer , anyone who claims otherwise is guessing. Avoid panic buying and prepayment to unknown suppliers, keep a buffer in the tank, and decide on a value you are comfortable with. We give you the facts, the decision stays with you.
