European performance classes for motor oil , they state what an oil must be able to do.
Definition
What ACEA describes
ACEA is the association of European car manufacturers. The ACEA classes set performance requirements for motor oils , independent of viscosity.
Typical classes: A/B for petrol and diesel, C for low-ash Low-SAPS oils with a particulate filter, E for commercial vehicles.
In brief
- ACEA C: Low-SAPS, required on many cars with a particulate filter.
- Alongside SAE: ACEA says what the oil delivers, SAE how thick it is.
- Priority: the manufacturer approval (e.g. VW, MB) takes precedence over the general standard.
