Oils in pregnancy: what to keep in mind

Care oils and essential oils raise questions during pregnancy. We give general, cautious orientation , and say clearly when to ask your doctor or midwife.

The orientation
Two different things

Care oils vs essential oils

Mild plant care oils, used externally, are generally seen as unproblematic , for example almond or jojoba oil for the skin and belly. Essential oils are a different matter: they are highly concentrated, and some are advised against in pregnancy.

The cautious approach is: gentle care oils yes, essential oils only with care and advice.

A cautious orientation

  • Mild care oils externally: almond, jojoba and similar, after a patch test, are commonly used for skin care.
  • Essential oils with care: some are discouraged in pregnancy; do not use them undiluted, and not without advice.
  • No internal use of essential oils.
  • When in doubt, ask: your doctor, midwife or pharmacist , especially with complaints or sensitivities.

Said honestly

This is general orientation, not medical advice, and we make no health promises. Pregnancy is individual, and the safest source for your situation is your doctor or midwife. When unsure about any oil, leave it out or ask first. We give you the facts, the decision stays with you.
