Flaxseed oil: how to use it and keep it fresh
One of the richest plant sources of omega-3 , and one of the most sensitive oils. We show how to use it right.
How it’s usedVery high in omega-3, very sensitive
Flaxseed oil (linseed oil) is pressed from flax seeds and is exceptionally rich in plant omega-3 (ALA). That makes its profile attractive , and also makes it the most heat- and air-sensitive of the common oils.
It has a low smoke point and turns rancid quickly, so handling matters.

How to use it right
- Cold only: over salads, quark, potatoes or in smoothies , never heated.
- A spoonful: a small daily amount is common; there is no need for large quantities.
- Buy small, store cold: in the fridge, in a dark bottle, and use up within a few weeks of opening.
- Taste check: fresh flaxseed oil tastes mild and nutty; bitter and scratchy means it has turned.
Said honestly
Flaxseed oil is a great plant omega-3 source, but only if it is fresh , a rancid bottle does more harm than good to the taste and quality. We make no health promises. Buy small, keep it cold and use it cold. With special diets or complaints, ask a professional. We give you the facts, the decision stays with you.
